Backpacking is becoming more and more popular as the social media world exchanges photos of the most miraculous places on earth. The Southwest, specifically, has become a destination for those seeking beginner backpacking trips with a guide. Here are just a few of our favorite beginner backpacking trips in the Southwest:

Indian Gardens – Grand Canyon

If you’ve been dying to visit the Grand Canyon but didn’t exactly envision how it would look, this may just be the perfect adventure. The Indian Gardens beginner backpacking trip allows you and/or your family to experience Grand Canyon’s popular Bright Angel Trail with the knowledge and know-how of a seasoned guide.

The hike begins at the South Rim of Grand Canyon and treks 4.5 miles down to the beautiful Indian Garden Campground. Along the way, you’ll be introduced to the fascinating geology and human history of Grand Canyon. After arriving in camp and getting set up, you can enjoy a stroll to Plateau Point for a sunset view. Delicious food and snacks will be provided throughout the day.

On your second day you’ll be able to leave your backpacks behind and hike to Pipe Creek Beach on the Colorado River. Enjoy the inviting pools in Garden Creek and Pipe Creek, explore off the beaten path in hidden side canyons, and soak up the Arizona sun and incomparable views. Your last day returns to the South Rim, retracing your steps from Day 1.

This three-day adventure is great for those with limited time in the Southwest, or for those who want to ease into backpacking and hiking in this famed National Park. For more information on the Indian Gardens, all-inclusive beginner backpacking adventure click HERE.

This adventure is also all-inclusive, meaning, your guide, gear, permits, meals and snacks are all included. You won’t have to sweat the small stuff, which will allow you and your family to enjoy every moment in Yosemite’s overwhelmingly beautiful wilderness.

During this beginner backpacking trip, you will hike along alpine streams and lakes. You’ll experience wildflower meadows, climb to stunning vantage points highlighting the Sierra Nevada and camp beneath a starry Southwest sky. Potential itineraries are varied and flexible.
