I completed my first trip with Four Seasons Hiking Guides. After having hike numerous times in my life, I decided to give a guided trip a chance as this would be my first in the Grand Canyon and first solo hike. My guide, Scott, was an excellent shepherd for the group. The group consisted of Scott and four hikers. This was, as best described, a first class experience. Of course, the canyon itself provided the ultimate backdrop for an enjoyable hiking experience. The views and vistas are without equal. However, taking it to the next level was the service provided by Scott and Four Seasons. We had a meeting prior to the hike where we covered what to pack and were given our backpacks. All that was required was to bring a few personal essentials — toiletries, sunscreen, flashlight, etc. Scott and Four Seasons provided everything else — tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, and most importantly food. The meals provided were in a word spectacular. Scott prepared a hot meal each day, tons of snacks and a healthy and delicious lunch. I can’t relay my extreme pleasure with the meals prepared. One evening we had roll-your-own burritos while we watched the sun set from plateau point. What a treat! Other than excellent meal planning and preparation, here are some other things that enforce my description of this being a first class hike: Scott setup and took down our tents and sleeping gear each day, he showed us all kinds of hidden secrets, answered about a million stupid questions with authority. He accurately judged the hiking ability of each of his charges and provided a hiking pace that matched. I never felt rushed and always seemed to have the right amount of free time to explore. He was attentive to any foot issues any hikers might have had and provided badges and first aid as needed. I am sold on guided hiking and am sold on Four Seasons. Scott ensured that my hike was trouble free and as first class as could be expected. My next trip will be in Yosemite. I can’t wait!
